The fee question, finished
The short answer for a US seller: $0.20 to list, then 6.5% + 3% + $0.25 of every sale — and 15% more on sales Etsy credits to its Offsite Ads. But the number that matters is not the average. It is the take at your price, against your cost. Calculators stop at the percentage. This page keeps going, into the verdict.

Full worked pages: fees on a $10 sale · $20 sale · $30 sale · $50 sale. Other lines that exist and are often missed: a one-time shop setup fee ($15–$29) before your first listing; a regulatory operating fee in many countries (0.25%–1.97% by country; not charged in the US today); 2.5% if your shop currency differs from your payment currency; optional Etsy Plus ($10/month) and Pattern ($15/month) — neither is required, and neither fixes a dead price.
Every fee answer on this site prints both cases: the ordinary sale, and the sale credited to Offsite Ads. Under $10,000 in the last 365 days the ads fee is 15% and you may opt out; above it, the fee is 12% and it is mandatory for the life of the shop, capped at $100 per order. Pricing that only survives the ordinary case is pricing that works until the day Etsy sends you a customer.
A percentage is not a decision. Whether the take is survivable depends on your cost and your framing: a $20 digital file keeps almost everything; a $20 handmade item with $11 of materials and an ad-credited sale keeps almost nothing. That judgment — fee stack × your cost × your framing — is the pre-flight verdict, and it is free:
For people who have not opened an Etsy shop yet. Nothing you answer leaves your browser, and there is no email box at the end. The verdict is a visible rubric plus published fee math — this site holds no live Etsy data, and it will never hand you a made-up crowding number.
The Etsy Entry Kit turns a verdict into a launch: the narrowing playbook that takes a DON'T or a NARROW to a specific-enough idea, the listing-launch checklist, the fee-proof pricing worksheet, the first-10-listings plan, and the beginner mistakes fleet in checklist form.
